Local Attractions and Adventures:
Shaver Lake Village is a wonderful and thriving outdoors-focused community that relishes in providing all sorts of adventures, big and small. From hiking to skiing, there are countless possibilities available year round to keep you excited and busy during your stay.
Water Sports Galore
Our proximity to Shaver Lake is ideal for the water-lovers out there; as our lake is popular for fishing, rowing, kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding, and more. Rent canoes, fishing boats, or even pontoons through our local favorite water sports company, Shaver Lake Water Sports, or take a drive to the lake side for some swimming and picnicking at any of the local beaches. The snow-fed water may be cold, but its crystal clear and extremely refreshing in the summer for cooling off hot travelers.
Ski and Snowboard at China Peak.
We love to spend sunny winter days at our local ski resort, China Peak, where travelers can buy day lift passes, rent gear, and grab a bite to eat for a splendid day out on the slopes. There are dozens of lines down the mountain from green all the way up to black diamonds, so snow lovers of all experience levels will find fun challenges and fast rides down the slopes. In the summer, the mountain is open for mountain bikers to race down quick and exhilarating trails.
Hike Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks.
Two of the most beautiful parks in the country and lovingly known as the land of the Giants, a stop by Shaver Lake would be remiss without taking the time to visit Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. There, visitors can summit huge mountains, go spelunking in beautiful and mysterious caverns, hike through deep ravines, and visit the biggest trees in the world. There are beautiful trails, gorgeous wildlife, and delightful flora to captivate and inspire explorers year-round.
Stop by the Museum of the Sierra.
The history of California’s Central region and in particular of the Sierras is a long and beautiful one. From the native peoples who first occupied this land to the first western settlers, the gold rush and the establishment of the National Parks, there is much history to be learned about our beautiful home. Visitors will see many exhibits about local wildlife as well as historic artifacts from the people who’ve made this region their home, and the museums 19-acre grounds are home to a fully functional steam donkey, the only operational hydroelectric powerhouse in a museum setting worldwide, a replica log flume, an antique Mac Truck from the 1920s, and an original sawmill.
Learn about the Mono People.
The Mono tribes, made up of the two clans of The Eagle and the Coyote, have had a long and beautiful relationship with the area and were the first stewards of the Sierra region. Learn more about their culture and see artifacts, beaded jewelry, tools, and more at the Sierra Mono Museum, which is located Northwest of Shaver Lake.
